80% are deficient in this mineral…….

Posted in Vitamins on December 18th, 2009 by biometicslady

This is excerpted from Total Health Breakthroughs, Dec 18, 2009 edition.  They say it better than I could……

******************************************************************

Kelley’s grandmother has never had heart problems. But she was short of breath, her chest was tight and her heart was palpitating. The doctors thought she was having a heart attack. And the symptoms were serious enough that they kept her in the hospital for three days to monitor her condition.

It turned out that she wasn’t having a heart attack. Thankfully, her forward-thinking physician checked her mineral levels. Kelley’s grandmother was suffering from an acute magnesium deficiency.

Fortunately, the only prescription she left the hospital with was one for a magnesium supplement. And to think that for less than five cents a day she could have avoided a near-death experience… and a costly visit to the hospital!

Show a Younger Face to the World

By repairing your skin’s DNA, you can soften your skin and erase wrinkles, tighten up your sagging jaw line, make your crow’s feet disappear, and banish sun and aging spots.

This Nobel Prize winning secret makes it possible. Your “telomeres” determine how long your skin cells live. Telomeres are the “time keepers” attached to every strand of DNA. Each time your cells divide, your telomeres get shorter. The shorter your telomeres, the more your skin cells age… causing dry and wrinkled skin. Maintain the length of your telomeres, your skin will stay supple, radiant, and youthful.

Are You Deficient in This Vital Mineral?

Kelley’s grandmother was deficient because she didn’t get enough magnesium in her diet. But she was also taking a drug that caused her mouth to become dry. She was drinking so much water that it accelerated her mineral loss.

Her condition was very serious. But it is not at all uncommon. The National Academy of Sciences estimates that up to 80% of the population is chronically deficient in magnesium. And this is not a mineral you want to go without.

Magnesium helps to regulate more than 300 enzymes. A deficiency in this mineral can affect virtually every system in your body. It helps to regulate your heart rhythms and control blood pressure. It helps to maintain insulin sensitivity and keep your blood sugar stable. It helps to prevent hardening of the arteries. It plays an important role in bone-building. It is vital to your immune system. It can relax cramping muscles and calm nerve impulses.

Magnesium also plays a key role in your ability to relax and sleep. And not just any old sleep… deep, refreshing sleep.

Sweet Dreams Are Made of This… Magnesium!

As we grow older our sleep becomes lighter and more restless. In fact, the National Sleep Foundation reports that 67% of people over 55 suffer from insomnia and other sleep disorders. With this in mind, Forrest H. Nielson, PhD, of the USDA Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center, decided to conduct clinical trials on the subject.

His theory? Magnesium deficiency.

You know it takes more than just dozing off while tossing and turning to wake up feeling energized. You need to fall into deep, slow wave sleep for your muscles to really relax, your nerves to calm and your brain waves to go on idle.

A sleeping pill might make you drowsy – and make you think you are sleeping – but studies show that most over-the-counter sleep aids keep you in the lighter stages of sleep.

And the Chronic Results…

When you’re not getting decent sleep, things really snowball. You become more vulnerable to infection. Your un-relaxed muscles and nerves generate chronic pain. The human body does its best repair work in deep sleep.

In 2002, researchers at Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry did a double-blind, placebo-controlled sleep study and found that patients who took magnesium supplements experienced a significant increase in slow wave (deep) sleep. Further blood testing showed that the magnesium effectively reduced their cortisol levels – a stress hormone that promotes alertness.

Other studies, again from USDA Human Nutrition Research Center, revealed that low magnesium levels disrupted brain waves (electrical activity) when the patients were asleep. This resulted in very agitated sleep patterns and excessive awakenings.

Head researcher Nielsen concluded, “It looks like magnesium is important for a good night’s sleep.”

Chronic Deficiency… Why is this Happening?

So what are the dietary sources of this mighty little mineral, magnesium? That’s the interesting question – and the answer is very telling…

The best sources of magnesium are whole, unprocessed foods. There has been widespread removal of minerals from processed foods. The result is that Americans’ intake of magnesium has dropped 50% in the last century.

Another significant source of magnesium? Mineral rich drinking water. But not the softened, de-mineralized water that most of us drink.

In August, 2004, the World Health Organization issued guidelines for drinking water quality. They noted that magnesium levels have a protective effect on the smooth muscle cells found in blood vessels. This can help to lower blood pressure. Their studies showed that restoring calcium and magnesium to drinking water directly reduced heart disease mortality!

Caffeine, sugar and alcohol intake can increase magnesium loss. Diuretic drugs and overloading on calcium supplements can flush it from the body. And gastro-intestinal disorders such as diarrhea, Crohn’s disease and intestinal surgeries can impair its absorption.

For complete and tasty Magnesium supplimentation in a form the body can and will absorb, buy our Cal/Mag 100 today!

ZINC & OSTEOPOROSIS

Posted in Vitamins on March 19th, 2009 by biometicslady

Zinc May Zap Osteoporosis Risk

Zinc is an essential mineral that is found in almost every cell. It stimulates the activity of many enzymes, supports a healthy immune system, is needed for wound healing, helps maintain a sense of smell and taste, is needed for normal growth and development, and now shows promise for reducing risk of osteoporosis in men.

In a recent study, 396 men were tested for bone mineral density (BMD) and were questioned to find out how much zinc they include in their regular diet. Four years later, the group was tested once again. According to The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, BMD was significantly lower in men who consumed the lowest amount of zinc.

The researchers concluded dietary zinc intake may have a positive association with BMD in men.

CHOLINE

Posted in Vitamins on March 19th, 2009 by biometicslady

Critical Role of Choline

Five years ago, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill researchers reported that choline played a critical role in memory and brain function. They found that choline positively affected the brain’s physical development.

Since then, UNC researchers have been working more closely to find the reason for the connection between choline and brain development. They have been working with nerve tissue derived from human cancer cells and recently discovered that choline causes stem, or parent, cell growth. They also found that there is less cell growth if choline is lacking in the diet.

“We found that if we provided (cells) with less choline, those nerve cells divided less and multiplied less. We then went on to try to explain why, by looking at genes known to regulate cell division,” said Dr. Steven H. Zeisel, professor and chair of nutrition at the UNC schools of public health and medicine.

Cell division is necessary for the development of the body. It is the process by which one cell divides into two cells causing reproduction and growth. It was found that when there was not enough choline in the diet, cell division was halted or slowed down.

The process of cell division is very important for developing babies. Babies get choline from their mother during pregnancy and from breast milk after they are born. Breast milk contains much more choline than many infant formulas.

Zeisel said that women who are pregnant or nursing are much more susceptible to choline deficiency. At these times, they need much more choline in their diet to support the growing baby.

Choline is a vitamin-like substance that is sometimes treated like b-vitamins and folic acid in dietary recommendations. Good sources of choline include eggs, meat, peanuts, and dietary supplements.

VITAMIN D NEEDS CALCIUM TO DECREASE FRACTURES

Posted in Vitamins on March 19th, 2009 by biometicslady

Study Says Vitamin D Needs Calcium To Decrease Risk of Fracture

Vitamin D has been in the news a lot recently, for several different reasons. One study has suggested that not getting enough of the vitamin negatively impacts the overall physical ability of seniors, which increases their risk of becoming disabled. Another study has suggested that the amount of vitamin D a person gets at a young age, either from sunlight or the diet, affects the risk for cancer later in life.

A new study suggests that increased vitamin D from supplements will reduce the risk of bone fractures only if calcium is also taken. The study from Belgium suggests that 700 to 800 IU of vitamin D, plus 1000 to 1200 mg of calcium would be optimal. This is approximately double the current recommendation of vitamin D, which is 400 IU per day. The current recommendation for calcium matches the amount suggested here.

The study involved men and women over the age of 50, who were given either vitamin D on its own, vitamin D plus calcium or a placebo. The study found that vitamin D alone did not significantly reduce the risk of hip fracture, but the vitamin D and calcium combination reduced the risk of hip fracture by 18 percent.

Other recent news involving vitamin D has focused on the request made by the Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) that the “higher tolerable level” of vitamin D be increased. This request is made based on scientific review of many studies that show that there is no adverse reaction from high levels of vitamin D, and that the evidence suggests that increasing the amount of vitamin D recommended would lead to more health benefits.

Osteo Drugs… Causing more problems than they fix

Posted in Vitamins on March 18th, 2009 by biometicslady

Do you or a loved one suffer from Osteoporosis, and find that prescription medications are causing unwanted side effects?

By: BIOMETICSLADY

Since 70% of study participents for Osteo drugs (according to Business Week Researchers) drop out within the first year for heartburn, ulcers, nausea, flatulence, and ulceration of the esophagus among others, the long term effects of these drugs are really not known.

What if I told you that you or a loved one could build bone while still maintaining flexibility and reducing the risk of fractures? How about if you could do this naturally, with no medications, no side effects, no additional medications to control those side effects and no financial risk? Would you be interested in a few products that were safe, effective, natural and long lasting? Would you try it, or give it to a loved one? Even Doctors and the FDA are now recommending various vitamins as well as calcium paired with magnesium for building bone.

BIOMETICS offers a 30 day money back guarentee on all products, so you can try them risk free! Call me at (989) 239-7040 for product recommendations, or visit www.liquid-wow.com and look for the Deluxe Nutritional Energy program. Order today, and start on the road to health.

The Niacin Flush

Posted in Vitamins on March 13th, 2009 by biometicslady

Some people taking any product with Niacin in it can be subject to the “Niacin Flush”.  Your body will start to itch, you feel flushing (mild to moderate) you may notice your hands swelling a bit, your face may get red.  This is temporary, and truthfully proof positive that the products you are taking are working the way they should.  It won’t hurt you, the contrary is true. These flushes may occur the first few times you take a Niacin product, but after that, they won’t happen.

The Niacin acts as nature’s transportation helper.  It dilates your blood vessels, more blood rushes into those vessels and capillaries close to the skin and you feel the results.

If you don’t want to wait it out, there is an easy fix.  Drink a bottle of water.  That’s it, the more water you drink, the less flush you experience.

Is ADHD actually a vitamin deficiency?

Posted in Vitamins on January 4th, 2009 by biometicslady

According to a  decades old Government article , ADHD may not be as complicated as you’ve been led to believe.  I’m quoting here “A 10 year test with rats proved that by withholding Calcium they can be bred down to a third the size of those fed with an adaquate amount of that mineral.  Their intelligence, too, can be controlled by mineral feeding as readily as their size, their bony structure, and their general health.  Place a number of these little animals in a maze after starving some of them in a certain mineral element.  The starved ones will be unable to find their way out, whereas the others will have little or no difficulty in getting out.  Their dispositions can be altered by mineral feeding.  They can be made quarrelsome and belligerent; they can even be turned into cannibals and be made to devour each other.  A cage full of rats will live in amity.  Restrict their Calcium, they will become irritable and draw away from each other.  They will begin to fight.  Restore their Calcium and they will grow more friendly; in time they will begin to sleep in a pile as before.  Many backward children are “stupid” merely because they are deficient in Magnesia.  We punish them for our failure to feed them properly.”

What does this mean for “ADHD”?  I’ll let you make up your own mind on that.

  • But consider this, hasn’t ADHD become more prevalent and problematic in the last few decades?  Why do you suppose that is?
  • Now consider the state of our soils and foods.  This article was written pre 1950, and it was a proven fact that there was serious depletion.  Being married to a farmer, I can tell you with certainty the advent of fertilizer has not solved this problem.  Three things are added to soil, Potash, Nitrogen, and Phosphorus.  Since the human body NEEDS about 98 different minerals, adding three doesn’t make much difference to what we need.  Of course, those three make the plants look good, makes them bigger and helps our yield.
  • Add to this the fact we now have GMO seed.  What is that?  Genetically modified.  It makes the plants resistant to Roundup, which normally kills everything, so the farmer can spray his fields for weeds that sap moisture and nutrition from the plant.  The necessity for this is an entirely different article, the bottom line is that spray is poison.  So on top of vitamin mineral deficiency, our bodies have to deal with poison.
  • Then we have transport time.  This is much longer than it used to be, and every moment a fruit or vegetable is not eaten after harvest, it’s value depletes.

So what does all of this lead us to conclude?  You know the answer to that.  What I can suggest, however, is the possibily that our ultra absorbable liquid vitamins and unique Calcium/Magnesium drink may indeed offer you and yours more help in this area of ADHD than you realize.  I cannot name specifics, so please get with me at Biometicslady@yahoo.com and I will point you in the right direction.

“Your Body Is Screaming For Get-Go-N ; Can you hear through the fatigue, confusion, depression, and weight gain?”

Posted in Vitamins on December 22nd, 2008 by biometicslady

by BIOMETICSLADY  (Yours truly)

Would you rather take a dozens of pills to get your B vitamins in separate component parts, or drink a delicious apple cinnamon flavored drink that actually works?

Get-Go-N Plus is an essential part of the Biometics line.  All Biometics products are produced to work synergistically.  The products are separated into different components, instead of all lumped into one formula.  This is for the simple reason that some products are more appropriate for certain health issues than others.

Get-Go-N Plus is composed of a B Vitamin Complex with the addition of Tyrosine.  Let’s look at the specific ingredients of this product, and the possible benefits of its use.

Let’s look at the B Vitamins first.  Deficiency in B vitamins can cause things such as muscle cramps, Anemia, Mental Slowness and confusion, lack of energy, respiratory infections, hair loss, and poor development in children, depression and abdominal cramps among others.

Note: B vitamins are destroyed by many things, such as caffeine, stress, alcohol, refined sugars and nicotine.  B vitamins are water based, and as such cannot be stored by the body, and any excess intake is excreted in the urine.  We must take in enough for our requirements each day, and since many people with health issues need more B Vitamins, and process it at a faster rate, it is no wonder so many diets are deficient in this basic nutrient.

Not all vitamins are created equal!

Get-Go-N Plus contains 1.7 G of Riboflavin (B2)   this is 100% of the RDA. Like the other B Vitamins, it plays a key role in energy metabolism, and is required for the metabolism of fats, ketones, carbohydrates, and proteins.  It contains 50 mg of Niacin (B3), which is 250% of the RDA. Niacin opens the capillaries, improving the flow of blood (resulting in the occasional red itchy “Niacin Flush”, which can be alleviated by drinking a simple glass of water).  Deficiency of Niacin has been shown to produce agitation and anxiety, as well as mental and physical slowness.  Vitamin B 5 (Pantothenic Acid) is at 10 mg, which is 100% of the RDA.  B5 deficiencies include fatigue, chronic stress and depression.  Vit B 5 is needed for hormone production and the uptake of Acetylcholine (Bio-Alert), which combine to prevent certain forms of depression. Pyridoxine (Vit B 6) is the most plentiful, at 10 mg, or 500%.  Many nutritionally oriented doctors do not believe that most diets do not provide optimal amounts of this vitamin {1}.

A healthy alternative for ADD/ADHD?

This vitamin aids in the processing of amino acids, which is only one of the reasons this component, contained in our Scholastic Enhancement Program,  has  proven to be amazingly useful for alleviating systems of ADHD.    Get- Go-N Plus has 100% of the Folic Acid or Folate as required by the RDA.   Most of us are familiar with this nutrient because of the recommendation to pregnant women get enough folate for the health of the developing fetus, since it is essential in the production of red blood cells and plays an important part in the production of DNA.  It also helps prevent Neural Tube Defects in the developing fetus.  The last B Vitamin Get-Go-N Plus contains is Vitamin B 12, at 6 mcg or 100% of the RDA.  Deficiency leads to such things as mood swings, irritability, confusion and mania {1}

Two little scoops… such powerful results!

Get-Go-N plus also contains .6 mg of Copper (30% of the RDA), a nutrient essential for transporting oxygen and for the maintenance of bone, connective tissue, brain, heart, and many other organs. {2}Copper is very important if you supplement with Zinc, as Zinc can interfere with the body’s absorption of Copper.  Zinc in this product is present at 5 mg (33%).  Zinc hardly needs an introduction.  It is essential for the immune system.  Zinc is an essential trace element for all forms of life. The significance of zinc in human nutrition and public health was recognized relatively recently.{3} Numerous aspects of cellular metabolism are zinc-dependent. Zinc plays important roles in growth and development, the immune response, neurological function, and reproduction. On the cellular level, the function of zinc can be divided into three categories: 1) catalytic, 2) structural, and 3) regulatory.{4}

The star of this product in my opinion is the Tyrosine.  Tyrosine (500 mg) paired with the B Vitamins makes for the perfect balance, and the Apple Cinnamon flavor of this makes it very tasty when mixed with juices and water, and even other flavored drinks.  Tyrosine is proven to be useful in ADHD, Depression, Appetite Suppression, Athletic Performance, And Parkinson’s, among other things.  Tyrosine is an amino acid is a precursor to numerous important substances in the body, such as the catacholamines Dopamine and Norepinephrine, and melanin and thyroxin as well. {5} “Tyrosine works” said Eric Beaverman, M.D., of the Princeton Brain Bio Center in New Jersey.  “It is a very mild but successful antidepressant that may be helpful to millions of people who suffer from mood problems, fatigue and tiredness.” It is also known that Tyrosine is a precursor to Seratonin.{6}For the above mentioned reasons, The Scholastic Enhancement Program by Biometics International, the leader in advanced Micellized nutrition, is a very effective therapy for the symptoms of ADHD/ADD. It has been found that the makeup of the brain can be altered by tryptophan, tyrosine (Get-Go-N) and choline (Bio-Alert) because they are the precursors of neurotransmitters substances that are released from a neuron or nerve cell when it fires.{7} In humans subjected to stressful conditions, tyrosine not only improves working memory and attention but may also improve mood and well-being {8, 9}. Tyrosine has been reported to alleviate some of the negative consequences of cold, high altitudes, fatigue, military training, and sleep deprivation {10-11}. It has also been postulated to decrease stress under conditions of aging, anorexia, and obesity {10}.
